Early Orthodontic Treatment for Your Child

A beautiful smile is something that can change a child's life, providing confidence and self-esteem through some of the toughest years. At White Orthodontics, we believe that children in need of orthodontic treatment should have it available to them as soon as possible. This allows us to start the process of correcting oral issues before they cause more complicated problems in the future. As a top Kansas City orthodontist, we know what it takes to give your children the straight teeth that they deserve.

How Early Should Orthodontic Treatment Begin?

According to the American Association of Orthodontics, a child should receive his or her first screening around the age of seven. At this point, most of the baby teeth have fallen out, giving way to the adult teeth that will soon erupt. By screening early, Drs. Robert and Loretta White can catch potential problems before they become challenging to correct. This can drastically cut down on treatment time, saving parents money and providing results at a much earlier age.

What Happens at an Evaluation?

When your child visits our Brookside or Iola office for an initial evaluation, he or she will undergo a thorough examination. This allows us to detect any problems that may need correction with the use of braces or other appliances. Some of the most common concerns that we find at these first screenings include the following:

  • Malocclusions
  • Crowded teeth
  • Open bites
  • Improper spacing

After we determine what oral problems your child may be facing, we will outline a preventative orthodontic treatment plan and walk you through every step to ensure your satisfaction. Our patients truly are like family to us, and we’ll do everything we can to make you feel comfortable.
